SIENN has developed their flagship product for the Windows Azure Platform: SIENN Services 1.0, a SaaS platform that runs entirely in the cloud and on Windows Azure. The model has a pure data and metadata orientation and offers the possibility to integrate online applications, web-based presentations and back office systems in the cloud. This blog post is a transcript of the interview with Gerard Hubbers of SIENN.
Anko Duizer:Can you tell me something about SIENN Services?
SIENN: With SIENN Services it is possible to develop applications and connect these with all types of data exchange. Our model is built to facilitate efficient development across the globe. It is possible to built industry specific applications and connect the data from back office systems (CRM/ERP), Microsoft SharePoint and all other forms of data sources. If needed one can also present the data on the web, for example through E-commerce, E-business or make links to Social Media platforms.
Anko Duizer: what was the most important reason for you to develop SIENN Services for the Azure platform?
SIENN: Our long term vision is to offer a continuous state of the art development platform to our clients. Based on rapid development we are able to connect any application, attended as well as un-attended, with the cloud, along with a fast market introduction. In addition, with Windows Azure, SIENN Services has endless scalability.
Anko Duizer: Can you describe how the Windows Azure platforms has helped you?
SIENN: Part of my answer is already captured in the previous question. But Windows Azure enables us to shorten the time-to-market- significantly. The scalability is enormous which makes the growth potential of the applications less restrictive with a lower maintenance level. Also, it is more cost efficient for us.
Anko Duizer: which other Microsoft products are used in the solution?
SIENN: The standard components, really; .NET, Silverlight, HTML5 are no strangers to us anymore. In addition, we make the integration with the newest versions of Microsoft products like Microsoft Dynamics, Navision and SharePoint Foundation. The basis for the development is Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.
Anko Duizer: What makes SIENN Services unique?
Sienn: The ultimate power of SIENN Services 1.0 lies in the fact of the dynamic built of the platform, resulting in a lot of flexibility. This allows us to connect any form of data and metadata with ‘any app’. And every application can then be connected with a web-functionality. By using the standard tool box (for Visual Studio 2010) it is possible based on Rapid Development to develop new applications fast, a benefit not only to us, but also to our distributors, and partners in our partner network. De required dynamic web services (not related to any data model, but more like a dynamic RIA service) and the tool kit (available to Visual Studio as plug-in for Silverlight) is being offered to the developers. Like a SDK for a connection with SIENN Services. |
